Journal: prettyheiress
Date of Birth: February 15, 1850.
Date of Death: Novemeber 5, 1867
Cause of Death: Suffocation
Personality: Jo is much like she was in life, sometimes it's hard for her to believe she is dead. She is a sad spirit though, she would have hoped that she would have been able to see her brother in death, but she's stuck on earth instead. She doesn't cause trouble, but she does appear to people, begging them to find out what happened to her and find her body, hoping that then she can finally be at peace.
Appearance: Jo is 5'4" with striking blue eyes and blonde hair. She is rather petite, but has some nice curves. She dresses as a woman of privilege would dress. She appears to be not much more than a spoiled rich girl that will soon inherit all of daddy's money, but there is much more to her than that. She looks in death, just like she did in life, and it might be hard to believe that she is a ghost at all.
Abilities: Joanna can appear to people and speak to them, but she can't move things yet. She keeps trying to lead someone to her body but she always disappears before they get there.
Favorite Haunting Places: The outskirts of town, near the woods.
History: Joanna was the second child, and the youngest of the Chandler family. Her brother Jameson was a good six years older than she was, and very protective over his baby sister. They were a wealthy family, so they didn't worry about much, but Anna had come from a poor family so she knew the hard ships that people faced and always taught her children to be kind and compassionate towards those that were less fortunate than they were. Their father didn't pay it too much mind because he was used to being a rich man, his family had been for generations.
Anna was just a poor girl of irish and polish descent when she met the Frenchman. They'd fallen in love quite easily and despite his parent's wishes, he married the girl. When his parents were killed in a fire, he inherited everything since he was the only son. Anna was already pregnant with Jameson at the time. They left New York, heading out west to see what they could find. They didn't worry much since they had the Chandler family fortune and all.
Joanna was born six years later in Tennessee. The family lived there until Joanna was about six, and Jameson was 12. Then the family migrated to Missouri, where Jonathan opened up a business and created many jobs for the town in which they were living. They stayed there until Joanna was 15, and Jameson was 21. Jameson was killed by a stray bullet on April 29, 1865. The family was never the same. There were too many bad memories and so much grief for the loss of Jameson that the family packed up and moved to California.
Her parents turned to alcohol to console them after the loss of their son, but Jo was not the same. She just studied and read most of the time. She kept to herself, and though men would come to court her, she wouldn't have any of them. Her father grew angry because he wanted his daughter to find a husband, but Joanna wanted nothing to do with it.
Joanna was seventeen when she left her family's home because she could not stand to see what was happening to them anymore, and she didn't want to be married. She sort of…ran away, and her maid Lydia accompanied her. They lived in New Shelby keeping mostly to themselves until someone recognized Joanna, someone who didn't like her father. He kidnapped her, hoping to get a nice amount of ransom for her, he stashed her in an old mine cavern deep in the woods while he tried to get money from her father. He died before he could tell Jonathan where his daughter was and Joanna died of suffocation after a cave in days later, her body was never found. She was seventeen, and now she'll be seventeen forever. |
